Compliance Rate with the National Joint Registry in Orthopaedic Trauma
Background
Why this project was needed
The National Joint Registry requires submission of data for all joint replacement procedures including those performed for trauma indications. An external NJR report identified compliance with data submission at our department to be approximately 40%, significantly below the national average. This internal audit was undertaken to identify the shortfall in submission practices and to implement a service improvement project to bring compliance in line with national expectations.

What the project set out to achieve
To establish the current rate of NJR data submission for trauma joint replacements at GSTT and to implement improvements to achieve compliance rates consistent with the national average.

- Retrospectively identify all patients who underwent joint replacement surgery for trauma management between January and March 2023.
- Cross-reference operative records against NJR submission logs to determine non-submission rates.
- Identify reasons for failure to submit data at the point of procedure.
- Implement a prospective audit cycle and data submission protocol to improve future compliance.
