Background
BOA/BHS guidance and NICE “Getting it Right the First Time” recommend AP and lateral radiographs within 24 hours of hip arthroplasty, with documented senior review, yet local practice shows delays and incomplete reporting .
Aims
o ensure 100% of hip arthroplasty patients at GSTT receive AP and lateral postoperative radiographs within 24 hours, with documented review, by the end of the audit cycle
Objectives
Case review: Audit all hip arthroplasties from 1 July to 31 August 2025 for timing of AP and lateral radiographs (D0 vs D1). Documentation measure: Record whether each radiograph report is signed off by an SpR, Consultant or discussed in MDM within 24 hours. Protocol development: Introduce a standardised radiograph request and reporting protocol by month 2. Staff briefing: Hold a brief training for radiographers and ward teams on the new protocol by month 3. Re-audit: Re-audit in month 6 aiming for ≥95% compliance with timing and review documentation .
